Prince Edward Island Provincial Nomination Program (PNP) FAQ

1. What is the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP)?

The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program is a fast-track category of Canadian immigration in which the province of Prince Edward Island nominates applicants to immigrate to and settle in the province.

2. How does the PEI PNP work?

To be nominated by Prince Edward Island, an applicant must meet certain age, language, education, experience and adaptability requirements and fall under one four PEI PNP categories.
The four categories of the PEI PNP are:

• The Skilled Worker Category;

• The Immigrant Connections Category;

• The Immigrant Partner Category; and

• The Immigrant Entrepreneur Category.

3. What is the Skilled Worker Category of the PEI PNP?

This category is for applicants who have received a job offer from a Prince Edward Island employer in a professional or skilled occupation. In addition to the job offer, applicants must:

• Have the necessary education and training for the position they are being offered;

• Must be able to speak English or French, as required by the position;

• Must show the intention to settle in Prince Edward Island; and

• Must score 50 or more on the PEI PNP Self-Assessment Form.

4. What is the Immigrant Connections Category?

Canadian citizens or Permanent Residents who have resided in Prince Edward Island for at least two years can ask the province to nominate their close relatives for Immigration to Canada. They must qualify as “Champions” in order to be eligible to make this request of the province of Prince Edward Island.

5. How do I qualify as a “Champion”?

To qualify as a “Champion,” you must have lived in Prince Edward Island for at least two years, have sufficient income to support yourself and your dependents, and have an unblemished personal history.

6. Who is considered an “Eligible Relative” under the Immigrant Connections Category?

Eligible relatives under this category are:

• A parent or grandparent;

• A child or grandchild;

• A sibling or first cousin;

• An aunt or uncle;

• A niece or nephew: and

• A step-relative or an in-law

7. What other criteria does an eligible relative need to fulfill under the Immigrant Connections Category?

Eligible relatives must show:

• The intention to settle in Prince Edward Island;

• That they are in good health and have no criminal record; and

• That they have secured employment in Prince Edward Island or that they have the ability to quickly do so.

8. What is the Immigrant Partner Category?

The Immigrant Partner Category is for applicants who intend to invest CDN $200,000 in a Prince Edward Island company as well as take an active management role in that company. Applicants must:

• Have at least five years of work experience in a management or ownership role in an industry that is relevant to the Prince Edward Island economy

• Have at least 12 years of education

• Have a net worth of at least CDN $400,000

• Be between 21 and 55 years of age. Ideally, the applicant would be younger than 49 years old)

• Make a “good faith deposit” of CDN $25,000 to the province of Prince Edward Island. The deposit is returned to the applicant after he or she shows evidence of residing in Prince Edward Island for at least one year.

• Be able to speak English or French. If an applicant does not speak enough of either language for an interview, he or she must escrow CDN $20,000 with the provincial authorities. This amount is returned to the applicant after he or she has resided in Prince Edward Island for at least one year as well as taken steps to improve his or her language skills.

Immigrant Partner Applicants must use an investment intermediary that has been approved by the province of Prince Edward Island.
Prince Edward Island is not currently accepting applications under this category.

9. What is the Immigrant Entrepreneur Category?

This category is for applicants who wish to establish a new business in Prince Edward Island. Applicants must have a minimum net worth of CDN $400,000, and invest CDN $200,000 or more to open a new business or purchase at least one third of an existing business. In addition, applicants must:

• Submit a business plan or a “Business Capacity” document showing the ability to successfully establish a business within the Prince Edward Island economy

• Be able to speak English or French. If an applicant does not speak enough of either language for an interview, he or she must escrow CDN $20,000 with the provincial authorities. This amount is returned to the applicant after he or she has resided in Prince Edward Island for at least one year as well as taken steps to improve his or her language skills.

• Make a “good faith deposit” of CDN $25,000 to the province of Prince Edward Island. The deposit is returned to the applicant after he or she shows evidence of residing in Prince Edward Island for at least one year.

• Make a deposit of CDN $100,000, which is held in escrow and returned to the Nominee after the establishment of the business and one year of residency.

• Meet some of the following criteria:

1. Be younger than 55;

2. Have experience in a management or ownership role in an industry that is relevant to the Prince Edward Island economy;

3. Have at least 14 years of education and at least one post-secondary degree or diploma;

4. Speak enough French or English for an interview.
