Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) FAQ

1. What is the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP)?

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) is a program that allows the province of Manitoba to nominate potential immigrants according to the needs of the province. There are several streams under the MPNP:

• General Stream

• Family Support Stream

• International Students Stream

• Employer Direct Stream

• Strategic Initiatives Stream

• Business Immigration Stream

2. What are Priority Assessment Streams?

Applications under Priority Assessment Streams are assessed before other MPNP applications, and are for applicants who can show the highest potential for successful settlement in Alberta. The Priority Assessment Streams under the MPNP are the following:

• Family Support Stream

• International Students Stream

• Employer Direct Stream

3. What is the General Stream?

The General MPNP Stream is for applicants who meet certain education and employment qualifications and have a connection to Manitoba. The connection may be:

• A relative in Manitoba

• A close friend and a distant relative in Manitoba

• At least six months’ work experience in the province

• At least one year of education in Manitoba, excluding language programs

4. What is the Family Support stream?

You can apply under this category if you have a close relative in Manitoba who can help you settle in the province and meet certain requirements. The relative can be:

• Your mother or father

• Your sister or brother

• Your aunt or uncle

• Your first cousin

• Your niece or nephew

• Your grandparent

As well, you must:

• Be between the ages of 21 and 49

• Have a post-secondary diploma or certificate in a program comprising at least one year

• Have worked full-time for at least two years in the last five

• Have enough proficiency in English or French to be able to work and settle in Manitoba

• Be able to demonstrate that you will be able to successfully adapt to life and work in Manitoba

5. What is the International Students stream?

This is an employer-driven stream that enables foreign students who have graduated from a post-secondary institution in Manitoba and have worked for an employer in Manitoba for at least six months on a Post Graduate Work Permit. Applicants need a permanent job offer from this employer, and the job must be related to their studies in Manitoba.

6. What is the Employer Direct Stream?

You can apply under this stream if you have been working in Manitoba on a Temporary Work Permit for at least six months, and have a permanent, full-time job offer from your Manitoba employer. You must show the intention to permanently settle in Manitoba, and that you have the necessary education and skills for the job you are being offered.

7. What is the Strategic Initiatives Stream?

The Strategic Initiatives Stream allows Manitoba to specifically target applicants according to the needs of the province. There are three categories of applicants under this stream:

• Applicants who have received an invitation to apply for Provincial Nomination as part of a promotional initiative

• Applicants who are adults that would not normally meet the criteria to be an accompanying dependent on the application of a Provincial Nominee but can show that they are dependent on that nominee and that nominee would help them settle in the province

• Applicants who have been invited for an MPNP approved exploratory visit by an ethno-cultural community in Manitoba and have that community’s support

8. What is the Provincial Nominee Program for Business?

The Provincial Nominee Program for Business enables the province to nominate applicants who show the ability and intention to start a business in Manitoba, purchase a business in the province or become partners in an existing business in the province.
